A Quick Lesson In Math

It’s only Tuesday and I ran out of chicken! Darn! This is not cool on a weekday.  Clearly I underestimated and miscalculated my intake of protein for this final week.  Math lesson learned.  :0)

Was up at 4:30 a.m. this morning.

It is now just past 9 o’clock at night.

About 12 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breast is baking in the oven. Two pounds of collard greens mixed with one pound of kale sit cooling on the kitchen counter.

The chicken is only seasoned with granulated garlic powder, black pepper, olive oil, and crushed red peppers. No salt or "extra" spices.

You’d think I would be exhausted after leaving work and going straight to the gym for more posing practice and a so, called “light” total body training at the gym. Haaahaaa! My trainer kicked my butt!

From crawling backward starting from a push ups position and dragging (backward) a 25 pound weight across the floor to arms curls and about 90 minutes of other “stuff” plus 20 minutes of cardio, I worked up a good sweat.

Wednesday I will be ready for the “light” workout. Lol!! I am not complaining because I actually enjoyed every minute of it.

Friends, family, and co-workers always ask, How do you do it? Where do you get the energy from?

The answer?  Eating healthy, which for me, means eating cleaning, getting enough sleep,  staying motivated and, keeping my head on straight (I don’t sweat the small stuff anymore) works well.  I want to say more, but I really have to go.

The transformation continues!!

Approaching The Finish-line

Four days remain and I am going strong!!

My meals for today?  Same as yesterday.

Lol! It’s a mental thing right now.

I LOVE chicken! The kale and collard blend really is a treat. 😜

Yesterday after work, I practiced posing, did a little total body (except for legs), and 30 minutes of constant cardio.  Today is pretty much a repeat of yesterday.  By the way, I dropped one (1) pound.

Have an awesome day!

Preparation Yields Success

Time check: 8:12 a.m

B’Dazzles track meet begins in about 15 minutes. Oh how I wanted to sleep in this morning, especially since today is a rest day.

Yesterday I was beat up from a week of intense weight training. I woke up feeling sore and achey. My trainer thought it best that I take the day off because my muscles need to recover.

Today is the two week mark from show time, but there is still time to further develop muscles. This period for me is like running 15 miles with two miles remaining.

You don’t coast, you shift gears, gain momentum and kick it out with all that you’ve got.

Track meets are long days… VERY long! Although I’m not weight training or doing cardio today, my diet is critical at this juncture.

I have always preached to my children about preparation and it’s connection to success. Success, whatever it <emmeans to you, isn’t about random luck, or being in the right places at the right time. I believe that making the day-to-day commitments and sacrifices by any means necessary prepares and readies one for such entity’s as a run of luck or unexpected opportunity.

Supporting B’Dazzle at his track meet, means sitting at the track all day… 7:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m. or later…

For me that mean food prep and major packing. So… After working yesterday, I ran a few errands then headed to the gym to do back. After the gym. I went home, ate dinner, started laundry, and began cooking and packing meals for today.

Yesterday, 4:30 a.m. I started my day… I finally climbed into bed at 10:45 p.m. Was I exhausted? Absolutely!!!!! Ugh! But– I am prepared for today!

Coolers in hand. Spoons, forks, oats, water, shakes, veggies, chicken, and more. That’s the only way I know how to roll!!

Luck without preparation just ain’t gonna work out.

Since I am straight for the day. I can focus my attention on B’Dazzle’s track meet. Woop! Woop!! We just took a 1st in the 4 x 100 relay!!!

It’s gonna be a good one! Happy Saturday!

Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine!!

Eight Weeks Out And Counting

“The mind is everything. What you think, you become.”

-Buddha

Yesterday marks the 8-week out milestone to stage day! Woo! Hoo!   It’s crunch time!

Pinch me!  Rarely do I have the house to myself; it’s a treat. As I write this, my home is completely silent. Well… other than the tapping sounds of my keyboard and Alex’s paws strolling around the kitchen floor looking for crumbs.

Alex

Speaking of crumbs, there’s probably lots of those on the floor these days. I don’t dare peak. Training has minimized house cleaning..  Oh wow!  Birds are chirping out back. Lovely!  As I was saying, training has cut into house cleaning, plant watering, and other household chores.  But–the fort is still standing and that’s what matters, so I’m over the dust.  LOL!

My training is going well.  To reduce the risk of burning muscle, CossFit is only an option when my work and family schedule prevents me from getting to the gym, which is occasionally.

We’re going heavier with the weights.  Legs, arms, shoulders, back… legs, arms, shoulders, back… and so on.  Three sets. Yes, of course we’re doing ab work, everybody wants to see abs on stage.

The American Natural Bodybuilding Federation held a competition in my area last weekend, so I got the chance to see a show from a competitors perspective.  It was awesome and lots of positive energy!  The competitors looked amazing. With my friend/trainer seated next to me, I learned the do’s and don’t’s of being on stage.

Walking, stage presence, transitioning, posing, and more.  Very helpful, I found this was.  The show was great and I loved more than I expected to.

Attending the show help me to realize that I should also have fun too.  Of course, not so much fun that I lose focus, but don’t take myself too serious and let my personality shine.

Consistent practice will bring me comfort and confidence, which is what I need to rock the stage.  I’ll get there.

Sunday mornings, I spend about an hour walking and posing in my five-inch heels.  Did I say Sunday?  Yes!  OMG!  Sundays are usually my rest days, but I’ve given them up.  I am going to do whatever I have to do to win this.  Win!  So what I’m a novice, if I put the work into training, I should expect the best, so there it is, I said the “W” world.  🙂

I finally have some pictures for you.  Forgive my hair and tired looking face…LOL!  It’s Sunday Morning!

Standig sideways

Posing is much harder than it looks.  Viewing pictures of myself help me to visualize what I should and should not look like on stage. I was so focused on the pose, that I forgot to smile.  LOL!  I won’t do that on competition day!

side pose

In this picture, I’m learning how to do a side pose.  I have to work on those stiff hands. Ugh!!

back pose

This is the back pose.  I’m amazed at how my back has grown and developed.  All of the hard work is paying off. There are those stiff hands again!  Working in progress!

Monday’s WOD

WOD:

12 minutes AMRAP (As many reps as possible):

10 KBS (44/20)

10 Strict Push-Up Burpees

Okay so it’s just after 11 p.m. and I’ve had a full day, which started at 4:40 this morning.  I’m beat but feel accomplished.

A phone call from my son’s school led me to pick him about 30 minutes earlier.  He threw up after lunch, but felt better when I arrived.   No, he wasn’t trying to get out of school.  He loves school and is rarely sick, so it was legit.  I think it might have been the Capri juices–  no proof just a suspicion.  Today I brought him a new 8 oz. bottle for his juices.

Not long ago, I saw some nasty images of the bottom of the juice bags on the internet and decided not to buy any more.  He has a few left in the bottom of the fridge. I’m going to cut the tops off of each one and check the bottoms.  Time will tell.

About 45 minutes before my 5:30 evening CrossFit class, I wolfed down dinner.  A meaty pork loin (just over 6 oz in size), fresh green beans, and zucchini squash.  I’m so sick of chicken now, I feel like I’m gonna start clucking any day now.

Eating before class doesn’t upset my stomach, cause me cramps or anything.  Why?  I don’t know.  Lol!  I felt energized during class.

I thought the strict push up burpees would do me in, but they did not. Heeeeey!!  I was up for the challenge today.  Hmm…. so my previous post about struggling with cardio in CF wasn’t an issue today.   Why?  Umm… Not sure.  Maybe because I ate dinner, I had a good source of fuel to energize me.  All I know is I felt great during the WOD. In the 12 minutes of the WOD,

I completed 9 1/2 rounds….  a total of 100 Kettle-bell Swings and 95 Strict Push Up Burpees!  Heck,  I’d better sit down to the dinner table before CF every class!  Lol!

My friend, a newbie to CF went today.  She did so well and I’m proud of her for staying with it.  Great job T!

You’d think I’d go home after CF.  Nope!  I attended a 7 p.m. information session on Transcendental Meditation.  Drenched in sweat, as usual, I sat in the back corner not to trouble anyone from my funky perspiration.

Halfway through the presenters relaxing presentation, my eye lids felt like lead rested on them. Out at 8 p.m. and home I went.

Real quick, this Transcendental Meditation has peaked my interest. I enjoy meditation and would like to further explore different types.  I feel calm and balanced when I meditate, so of course, I want to learn more.

I’m too exhausted to explain tonight, so below is small blurb from the official TM site. Click on the link to learn more.

The TM technique allows your mind to effortlessly transcend, to settle inward to the source of thought — a natural state of pure awareness and restful alertness. This automatic self-transcending is a unique feature of the TM technique.

I have to get some sleep.  Sweet dreams!
