An eternal optimist, always wearing a smile. Must haves: sunshine, fitness (jogging, weight training, & CrossFit), reading, good food, writing, music, and fun with family and friends.
As a kid, I felt free as bird swinging. Today I could not resist plopping my butt on a swing. Seriously, this made me happy!! 😄. Age ain’t nothin but a number!
Enter any grocery store, Walmart, Target or any place that sells food and we are reminded to eat healthier foods and to take better care of us.
For many people, that’s a tall order because they don’t know how to or what to eat because they are confused.
Inviting and colorful food labels frequently mislead consumers about their food content and nutritional value.
“Fat Free…Low Calorie… Reduced calorie…Whole Wheat…Wheat…Gluten Free…Sugar Free and more”
On top of that, food manufacturers deceive us even more with pictures of fruit like plump, ripe blueberries supposedly added to chemically processed waffles. Ugh! I just can’t!!
No wonder folks are confused!
So if you’re trying to make smarter food choices, what the heck are you supposed to do? Read and educate yourself and….. Drum roll…
Eat fresh fruit and produce, drink water, and reduce the amount of processed foods that you eat.
Take advantage of every opportunity to read up on the subject; information is everywhere! In addition to reading articles in your local newspaper. Follow blogs, fitness and health magazines online. The information is there, you just have to read it.
The Vitamin store offers free magazines to their customers such as Life Extension, Muscle & Performance and Amazing Wellness. All provide resourceful information that will change the way you think about food and fitness.
Check out this great article I found from a board I follow on Pinterest. It clears up a few misconceptions about so-called healthy foods.
Oh and by the way, I am still participating in the 100 Happy Days Challenge. Last week was my first week back to school and I haven’t had the chance to post them here. You can also find my happy day photos on Instagram at Lexa_82 Twitter at Lexa82. The hashtag for my 100happydays post is #100happydays4lexa
“Are you going to be able to walk tomorrow?” I haven’t seen a back workout like that!!!”
“Who me?”
“Yeah!!”
“Well Umm.. I’ve got a strong back….”
Oh my gosh!! I am crackin up now. Lol!!
Unbeknownst to me, this guy (well constructed I must say) was watching me workout. Following the principle of switching things up, I did a workout that I found here.
I was focusing just like AR taught me… Mind body connection and zeroing in on the working muscle.
When this guy approached, he totally caught me by surprise. He was respectful, unlike some guys, who don’t know what to say to women and make ridiculous comments that make you really wanna slap the ish out of them. Lol!
This was the first time I combined back and biceps, but I enjoyed the workout.
Vanessa Tib’s Workout
This “sample workout” was a challenge but I felt great doing it. I am so happyVanessa Tib Fitness shares her workouts with the rest of us!
#100HappyDaysChallenge #Day 6
Oh, and yes, I will be able to walk tomorrow. Haahaaahaa!
B’Dazzle at a raceway with a friend (yesterday). He had a blast! #100HappyDaysChallenge Day#5
It is a gorgeous day out; I hope you are enjoying the day! 🙂
Who doesn’t want peace in their life? While perusing my emails and other socials, I came across this image. I don’t have much to say, because the picture says it all.

I will only say that, I’ve been there before. There being a place where I felt terribly wronged by someone. I was young and it was hard for me to get over.
Cuts, gashes or wounds will heal if cleaned, bandaged, and left alone. But picking at them slows the heeling. Think about this. When a cut begins to heel, a scab forms. If you pick at it, what happens? The scab falls off and the wound is raw again–
Don’t let the anger, hurt, and pain of what others have done to you consume your life and rob you of happiness. Life is just too short.
I woke up at 6:30 a.m. yesterday with firm plans to do legs in the morning. Hubby had different plans. He wanted to take me to breakfast. Dilemma!
This is a perfect example of the silly balancing act that many moms deal with. My heart spits the decision 50/50. My brain says, “Girrrrl, take your butt to the gym and get your workout on!”
With 26 years of marriage under my belt, I know good and well the importance of spending quality time with my man. The idea sounds noble and simple, but it takes real effort to make it happen.
We are just busy behind folks! Mom lives with us, our son plays several sports, we both work, I’m always racing off to the gym, or blogging… add sleep and meals to the mix and, well… damn! Lol!
I dressed for the gym, wore flip-flops but tossed my sneaks in the back seat and took hubby up on his offer to breakfast. We dropped B’Dazzle off to camp and drove to Kelsey and Kim’s on Melrose Avenue in AC.
My breakfast was the bomb!! I ordered a four egg (2 whites) vegetable omelet with jalapeño peppers. Salmon cakes were not available, so I surprised the waiter and chef with a request for six jumbo shrimp sautéed with fresh spinach and crushed red peppers. Lol! If you think it sounds mouth-watering, you should have tasted it.
Outstanding! By the way, this dish and time spent with hubby yesterday made me incredibly happy! #100HappyDays Day #3
The chef came out to ask me if the meal was hot enough. I think he wanted to see who the chick was eating all this food at 9 O’clock in the morning.
After breakfast, I suggested we walk on the boards. I did not realize though, that Hurricane Sandy destroyed the section of the boardwalk I intended to walk.
We ended up walking along the Caspian Avenue Beach, which was wonderful! Shame on me for living in the area all of my life and not knowing the Caspian Avenue beach existed. Seriously, I’m embarrassed.
We have a backyard pool, so I usually spend my time there. And the other thing is, when I do a beach day, I want to chill without running into too many students (I work at the high school) or other folks I know in the city.
I might sound snobby, but we’ve lived in the area all of our life. Rarely can we go anywhere, and I mean, anywhere without running into somebody. Ugh! Look, we’re very social people, but sometimes, I need to blend into the background and be unknown.
Only a week remains before the school year begins, but I hope to spend a least one day out there before the season ends.
That’s the City of Brigantine that you see across the water.
To the right of the rocks are the remains of pilings leftover from Hurricane Sandy. Only this section of the boardwalk was destroyed.
I just had to take a picture of the broken and dangling wooden piling. Tho it’s broken, it still kind of cool looking. The setting is pretty (to me).
After strolling on this beach, we drove further into the city and walked the boardwalk. I didn’t calculate, but we had to walk a good two miles.
Did I make it to the gym? No. But later in the day, I did do walking lunges to meet our son and his tutor on the campus of a local college. That counts right? Lol!
